A series that I really like

Let me show you one of my favorite books in A Series of Unfortunate Events. It is called The Grim Grotto . In this book, Violet, Klaus and Sunny end up in a submarine! During their frantic
search for the sugar bowl, the three children find their way into the Gorgonian Grotto in which lies a deadly fungus.

This series has 13 books in it and this is the anti penultimate one. All the books were written by
Lemony Snicket and illustrated by Brett Helquist.

Measle

Here is a book I read awhile ago, it is called Measle and the Wrathmonk by Ian Ogilivy.

In the book a boy called Measle Stubbs is living with a dreadful man in a horrible house. The dreadful man is his legal guardian, Basil Tramplebone. Measle never dares to go into "his bedroom" because it totally creeps him out. In fact, he only dares to go into three rooms of the house: the attic, the kitchen and the bathroom. The attic is his favorite because it holds a huge model train set. Of course he is never allowed to play with it as it is Basil's but Measle likes it all the same because it is oddly realistic.

One day he finds a way to sneak up and play with it but things don't go as planned...

I like this book because it is strange and interesting. In my opinion the story is very well written. I hope you end up reading it!

Post Five (I think)

I know I haven't blogged in awhile but here is a post because I have been reading!
This book, The Fabulous Fantoras by Adele Geras is the first in a series of two (or more). It is about a family and it is narrated by a cat. Not an ordinary family nor an ordinary cat but a special cat whose name is Ozymandias (aka Ozzy).

Each member of the family has special powers such as the power of flight, invisibility or animation. In the story they use their powers to fix incidents that have happened to other people (sometimes themselves).

In one chapter one of the kids, Bianca, takes a class trip to a museum and makes trouble!


I liked this book because it was very odd and it was funny because of how a cat narrates it. Even if you think this blog entry sucks I hope you still read the book anyway!

Wordstock Bookfair

This was at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. I took pictures of some interesting sculptures which (to me) took the form of Poppies and very large Hazelnuts.

When we entered the exhibit hall there were books everywhere! Hooray!

They had a kids area that was boring to me because the main activity was creating a book and that meant a lot of writing, (which I do not like).

These are the books that I ended up buying:

The Slippery Slope (Number 10 in A Series of Unfortunate Events) by Lemony Snicket (illustated by Brett Helquist)
It's All Greek to Me by Jon Scieszka (illustrated by Lane Smith).



I won an autographed copy of Where Dogs Run by Hunter Gregg.




There was a booth from a store called "Title Wave Used Bookstore" which sells retired library books at VERY cheap prices (and the profits go back to the library).

Post 4, Winchell Mink

How would you like to body morph into a baseball playing dinosaur, be judged in a court by turtles, and fight off bullies in the body of a boy named Bobby Plungerbutt?

If you said "huh?" you are exactly like Winchell Mink, the main character in this absurd story by Steve Young.

The other day at the library this book nearly jumped out at me so I took it home.
It is my new favorite because, I mean, how many books have a commercial in the middle?
How many times have you seen that? Really, tell me!

This is an absolutely absurd book.

If you like crazy books this is right for you.

Second Post, oh, I mean Third Post

Kate DiCamillo's The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

This is a very interesting book with one main character, a rabbit. His name is Edward. Edward has many adventures, and many friends. But first he loses his best friend Abilene. Next he finds that he is being tossed overboard from a ship. Then he meets a second friend. If you want to find out who this friend is and if he ever finds Abilene again you should read this book!
